Identifying Different Types of Postage Stamps

Beyond learning how to use the basic stamp collecting tools a new collector must also learn how to identify the many different types of stamps that have been issued. Looking at a postage stamp you may be able to identify the country of origin, the subject of the stamp, the denomination and in many cases the year of issue. Can you determine if the stamp is a commemorative, definitive, coil, booklet, postage due, airmail or semi-postal? Featured are some examples of the many different types of stamps you will encounter. Knowing the specific type of stamp will help in organizing your collection and may introduce you to new collecting areas of interest.
